I’ve just watched “The Snowman and Snow dog” on pvr, recorded off channel 4 HD on Christmas Eve.
It was enjoyable and watchable, the kids loved it.
Its basically an update of the original film, the house and garden the little boy lives in is smaller -but still a very large size compared to real life, and the boy lives in a single parent house.
Other touches include a touch of sadness by the death of a pet in the first few minutes: very “Up”. The new song for the revisited journey to the north pole is like a bargain basement version of a ColdPlay song.
The frame rate at the start doesn’t seem as smooth as the original but that soon settles down (perhaps due to the scenery moving slower).
I think the most jarring is the CGI airplane, it could have been much more integrated to the animation than it had been, and didn’t quite match.
Raymond Briggs commented that he didn’t like CGI but it had been used for the snow falling and lighting, is it possible he didn’t notice the airplane was computer generated with the snowman and snow dog and boy flying in the foreground?
I enjoyed it, though Snowdog was a very derivative remake of the original Snowman.
